With its white sand beaches, crystal clear water and some of the most stunning reefs on the planet, the Maldives is a tropical paradise. But with so many incredible hotels, where should you go for your unforgettable experience? To help you make that decision read on for a taste of some of our favourites.
The family one
One of our 360 ladies has just returned from an incredible family holiday at the Shangri la Villingili. Based on one of the largest natural islands, and the furthest southern luxury resort there is. The island is beautiful with a house reef and lots to do, including a 9 hole golf course (the only one in the Maldives). Service and food are excellent with kids eating free under 12yrs off the children’s menu. Our 360 family saw hundreds of dolphins and also turtles, stingrays and sharks! They totally loved it!
The ultimate bare foot luxury
Gili Lankanfushi offers no news, no shoes! We love the rustic, natural feel and Mr Friday! It is only a fabulous 20 minute speedboat ride from Male airport. Everything is incredible here. We especially love the villas which have slides into the ocean and getting around the island on the famous bamboo bicycles.
We love Four Seasons Laanda for being elegantly luxurious but it still maintaining that laid back no shoes vibe. The staff and service are amazing, as is the food. For that extra special experience twin with Four Seasons Kuda Hura via their amazing boat Four Seasons Explorer. This is an amazing experience for divers and snorkelers. Perfect for a big family celebration.
Milaidhoo is the new boutique small island with exceptional rooms, especially the beach villas. Everything is very high quality at this bijou property.
Best for star-gazing
Six Senses Laamu needs a bit of extra effort to get to with another flight and boat ride from Male, but as you are arriving at the stilted village in the middle of the ocean, this definitely feels worth it. As the island is so far south there is no light pollution and the night sky is amazing. Swim with sharks and rays directly from your water villa and with dolphins living very close by you are virtually guaranteed to see them during your stay. We loved the romantic jungle cinema too!
Outrigger is gorgeously luxurious but understated with only 51 rooms. There is lots of space and privacy with entry category rooms having their own private pool and beach access as standard. Guests staying for more than 5 nights have butler service included. The food is incredible they have an a la carte breakfast and offer amazing Japanese cuisine. The service is excellent with staff anticipating anything you could want even before you knew you wanted it (without being intrusive).
Anantara Kihavah has a wonderfully chilled atmosphere, with fabulous food and spa. They have some great touches such as lovely goodies were left in our rooms for adults and kids alike. We particularly loved the beach pool villas. In our hut it was very spacious and the garden was enclosed for privacy which we liked. The staff at the restaurants couldn’t be more helpful – you just have to mutter, as we did, ‘I fancy a glass of champagne’ and it appears!
