We had a wonderful trip to Japan. We really loved the culture. I’m so glad we were able to do so much in such a short time. We did cut out a shrine and temple and the Geisha tour in the end because we just wanted time to ourselves which worked out well. Overall, the highlights were Tokyo and Kyoto. I guess we love cities and food and people watching!!
In Tokyo, favourites were the fish market and the food. We loved our guide in Tokyo/Hakune…very fun exploring all the neighbourhoods by subway…experienced being packed in during rush hour LOL. Wonderful Shabu Shabu dinner at Seryna. Girls enjoyed Harajuku area…took pictures in the photo booths…but fish market was their favourite….so cool seeing the inside of the old market and all the activity and fish. We bought lots of great tea products at stalls outside of market. Loads of fun.
Loved Asakusa area. Stopped at local noodle house which was authentic and delicious. In Hakune, the hotel was so beautiful but to be honest, a little weird for us. We had fun in our private bath drinking saki and girls LOVED their massage. Dinner was in our kimonos in our room…very authentic Japanese cuisine…we tried it all including unusual vegetables and roots and fish we’d never heard of….not our favourite cuisine but so glad we did it…even made it to public, no clothing baths after dinner…a culture shock but lots of laughs.
Loved trekking the old road and the teahouse at the top was a real treat…so authentic and fun!!
In Kyoto, loved the gardens and all the shopping. Helen was enamoured with the really really cool vintage shops. Girls loved all the Pokémon stuff and the cute Japanese stuffed animals and let’s not forget theJapanese candy!!! A favourite pastime was stopping in dollar stores and loading up on unusual Japanese candy and doing taste tests in the evening!!! And then there were all the many different flavors of KitKats!!!! We also had the most amazing omakase sushi dinner.
Thank you for a most amazing and unforgettable time.
